Support your child’s learning, development, and everyday activities with comprehensive pediatric vision examinations. Our assessments help identify vision concerns that may affect reading, classroom participation, hand-eye coordination, and overall visual comfort.
Patient Value & Clinical Pillars
Children rely on their vision to learn, explore, and interact with the world around them. A pediatric vision examination goes beyond checking whether a child needs glasses. It can help identify concerns with visual clarity, eye coordination, focusing ability, and overall eye health.
Reading and classroom activities require both eyes to work together while maintaining clear focus on nearby objects. We assess eye coordination and focusing ability to identify potential difficulties that may affect your child's visual comfort during close-up tasks.
Following words across a page, copying information from a board, and tracking moving objects require coordinated eye movements. Our examinations evaluate visual tracking and eye movement control to identify concerns that may warrant further assessment.
Children frequently switch between books, tablets, computers, and classroom boards. We assess visual clarity and focusing comfort to help identify screen-related eye strain and provide appropriate recommendations for healthy visual habits.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Our pediatric vision examination is designed to make children feel comfortable while providing a thorough assessment of their visual function and eye health. We adapt our approach to your child's age, needs, and ability to participate.
Eye Alignment & Coordination Assessment
We begin by evaluating how your child's eyes align and work together. Depending on age and clinical needs, assessments may include eye alignment tests, binocular coordination checks, and depth perception testing. These evaluations can help identify concerns such as strabismus (misaligned eyes) and possible amblyopia (reduced vision development in one eye).
Visual Focusing & Flexibility Evaluation
Next, we assess how effectively your child focuses on objects at different distances. This may include evaluating near and distance focusing, focusing flexibility, and symptoms associated with prolonged close-up activities. The results help identify visual concerns that may affect reading and classroom comfort.
Pediatric Refraction & Comprehensive Eye Health Check
We assess your child's refractive needs using age-appropriate techniques and objective testing tools when indicated. We also examine relevant eye structures, including the eyelids, cornea, lens, and retina, as appropriate. These assessments help identify potential vision or eye health concerns and determine whether corrective lenses, further evaluation, or follow-up care may be beneficial.
Not sure which visit you need? We’ll help you pick the right one.
We use age-appropriate vision assessment tools, including handheld autorefractors when appropriate, to obtain objective measurements of how light focuses within your child's eyes. These non-invasive devices can help estimate refractive error quickly and comfortably, making the examination more accessible for younger children.
